The Canadian Equitable People-Centred Health Measurement team (healthyqol.com) is developing cutting-edge online health measures that are short and tailored to each person’s unique experiences.

You Are Invited to Join Our Project

UBC is recruiting for a stroke rehabilitation program.

 

The study aims to help stroke survivors recover through a physical therapy or education program delivered online by a professional. All participants are compensated for their time.

Toronto Rehabilitation Institute 

Volunteers Needed for a Research Study

Stimulating postural control to augment rehabilitation after cerebral stroke

(SPARC): a pilot trial

PURPOSE: To determine if a larger study that involves electrical stimulation and balance training is possible to do easily and conveniently.

WHO: People living with stroke for at least one year who can stand independently for 60 seconds

WHAT:
1. Four clinical tests done over 5 time points (1 hour/session)
o A physical therapist will test your balance, balance confidence, muscle strength and
walking

2. Lab test done over 3 time points (1.5 hours/session)

A research team member will test the brain-muscle connection for one of the muscles in
your lower leg

3. 12 balance training sessions with electrical stimulation (1.5 hours/session)

Electrical stimulation is a physical therapy treatment that uses electrical pulses to help
increase activity of muscles and nerves

Reimbursement will be provided.


LENGTH OF STUDY PARTICIPATION: 21 weeks (~5 months)
1. Baseline (weeks 0-2): clinical tests (3 times, each one week apart) and one lab test
2. Balance training (weeks 3-9): 2 times per week
3. Follow-up (week 21): clinical and lab tests

Parkinson's Disease and Music Appreciation


This study is recruiting participants who are living with Parkinson's Disease, with or without musical experience. Participants will partake in a 1-2 hour session assessing competency and appetency in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Since these sessions can be conducted virtually, participation is open to individuals across Canada. If you are interested in participating, please contact Nina at: nbaya063@uottawa.ca.

Are you a young adult who has experienced a stroke between the ages of 18 to 50 years old? You are invited to participate in this research study! Stroke significantly impacts survivors as well as the lives of their families and loved ones. Your participation can make a real difference by preventing future young adults from experiencing the devastating effects of stroke all over the world.

Simply complete this online survey, which should take approximately 10-15 minutes. You will not be asked to include any information that could identify you such as 'your name'.
